Matriculation
1. You will get monthly allowance (RM250 per month except on holidays)
2. Cheap fees
3. Shorter study length (1 year)
4. Early experience of living in dorm (since you need to live in dorm in university too)
5. The amount you study for matriculation is lesser compare to STPM. It is easier compare to STPM.
Althought the percentage of intake for non-bumiputera is low but you can try you luck. After coming into university, I heard from my matriculation friends that there are 2 or 3 intake for matriculation, if you don't get the offer in the first intake don't worry (try apply again) and while waiting for the results, go study STPM first (at least you still can continue your study even if you didn't get into matric).
Try to apply for matric even if your result is not straight A's in SPM, there are some non-bumiputeras that manage to get in matriculation even if their result are not straight A's.
ps. I didn't apply for matriculation since I didn't get straight A's in my SPM. Now, I kinda regret it. I went to study STPM, but I'm still very thankful that I can get into government university (private university fees is just very expensive)

For more information, you can search on google since I don't really know much about matriculation but what I want to say is don't waste the opportunity to apply for matric since it really have a lot of advantage. Ok, since I study STPM, I will talk about STPM from my personal experience.
STPM
1. Cheap fees
2.Study years 1 year plus almost 2 years (3 semester). Final result for STPM is CGPA of 3 semester add up and divide by 3 (very hard)
3. Need to study very hard. I'm in science class in Form 6 and my class has only 7 students. All of us fail all our subject in our first semester (Physics/Biology, Pure Maths, Chemistry and Pengajian Am). Very easy to fail. I still remember for Pengajian Am if you forgot to write certain words, you may get 0 for the whole essay. Biology book is very very thick (the scope of study is very big). Pure Maths and Chemistry also very hard.
4. Can repeat your 1st and 2nd semester STPM exam but my advice is do your best every semester score the best you can. Cause repeating the 1st and 2nd semester exam is not easy. There is already a lot of things you need to study in one semester although there is only 4 subject but it is really hard.
The art stream student in Form 6 is also having a hard time, I have friend in art stream and her Geography book is even thicker than my Biology book.
5. Study only 4 subjects for the whole STPM.
6. There is still one person for my badge that get 4 flat, so really need to work hard for every semester. The 4 flat student also fail some of her subjects in 1st and 2nd semester. But really not easy, really really not easy. Don't think that only the 4 flat student study hard for STPM to pass with flying colour, all of us study very hard during Form 6. I have a lot of friends that get CGPA lower than 2.00 for the final results and not eligible to apply for government university or even continue degree. They need to spend extra money to get A level so that they could continue to study degree.
I still remember in our first class in Biology tell our class that her previous student that got straight A's in Form 5 fail in STPM. I also remember how hard every subject teacher give us harsh lectures when our 1st semester result came out, during that day, my Biology teacher is so angry and left the class in the middle of scolding us. I also remember, how my art stream friend cries in school when the 2nd semester result came out (she fail all her subject in 1st and 2nd semester of STPM).
Form 6 is really full of memories. Mostly bitter memories tho (laughs).
